The State Government has already released a sum of Rs 1 crore to clear pending payments of daily-wage workers at the university. The fund crunch of the varsity was so severe that it had affected research work.

Vice-chancellor MM Agarwal told HT that the government proposed to allocate more funds to the university for clearing arrears of employees. It is expected that the dues would be cleared by the end of September.

On the row over appointment of Deans, he said since Dr AN Tiwari was a senior professor in the Department of Economics he was given the additional charge of Dean, College of Agriculture. Similarly, Dr BR Gupta, Head of the Soil Department, was given additional charge of Dean, Home Science, following the retirement of Dr KD Upadhayay.

Dr Agarwal told students would start coming to the university from August 1 and regular classes would start from the first week of next month.

He said though the academic session was delayed by 20 days due to counseling, it would be made up once the session started. Dr Agarwal said all wardens attended the meeting and suggested measures to contain the menace.

According to them, teachers and senior students would escort freshers on the way to the mess and classrooms.

He said several committees had been set up to ensure a healthy environment on the campus.
