The present age limit was challenged by some state service officers in the Supreme Court with the contention that since the retirement age in the central government was increased from 58 years to 60 years, the age limit for induction into All India Services should be increased too.

"Therefore, considered views of all stakeholders viz. state governments, cadre controlling authorities i.e. ministry of home affairs, ministry of environment, forests and climate, state civil service, non-state civil service, state police and forests services officers and their associations are invited latest by December 30," the department of personnel and training said on Friday.

The Supreme Court had this year directed that all the petitioners will be at liberty to move appropriate representations to the central government within four weeks from the date of issue of the order and the Centre shall take a call on the matter, and a final decision shall be taken within a further period of four months.
