The decision has been taken as the Opposition plans to gather at the Prime Minister's Office on Wednesday to protest against the deaths during demonstrations for electricity.

Wednesday's agitation is part of a three-day anti-government protests including Tuesday's rally by main opposition Awami League's youth wing and a nationwide general strike on Thursday.

The 24-hour-ban was to ensure protection of the restricted area, protect public safety and maintain peaceful atmosphere, police said.

Police will enforce strict security on 13 roads leading to the PMO, they said adding that overnight raids at Dhaka University dormitories led to the arrest of some 50 people.
