Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M Karunanidhi on Tuesday asserted that his government was committed to ensure better healthcare services and recalled the increased allocation to Health and Family Welfare Department made by his government.
'While the AIADMK government in 2005-06 allocated Rs 1,487 crore, we have focussed more on health care and allotted Rs 3,889 crore this year,' he said after inaugurating a new medical college in his home town of Tiruvarur.
DMK's flagship medical scheme, Kalaignar Insurance Scheme, where the government pays the insurance premium for certain surgeries for persons with an annual income of Rs 72,000 or less or the 108 Free Ambulance scheme 'cannot be forgotten' and had even earned the praise of rivals, he claimed.
The DMK president, whose text of the speech was released here, said political differences should not come in the way of development and urged parties to work together for the welfare of the people. He also said he wanted to take development across Tamil Nadu.
