CHIEF MINISTER Mulayam Singh has said that district hospitals of all major cities in the state will be upgraded to reduce the excessive burden of patients on medical colleges.
Speaking at the Balrampur hospital after inaugurating a new CT Scan unit and laying foundation for a new emergency complex, worth Rs 2.19 crore, the chief minister said today that medical colleges had been given enough funds and now the government hospitals would be equipped to serve better.
He called upon doctors of government hospitals to pay attention towards patient care and said that strict action would be taken against doctors who did not perform their duties.
“People will not run for PGI or medical colleges each time if they get similar facilities at government hospitals. Whatever equipment or infrastructure is required the government is committed to provide,” he said.
UP, he said, was known as a backward state in terms of education and health services but the government had given attention to these sectors and the need was now of devoted doctors.
Commenting on the recent incident of violence and arson on King George’s Medical University (KGMU) campus, the CM said probe was going on and guilty would not be spared.
He, however, directed KGMU vice-chancellor Prof Mahendra Bhandari, present at the function, to improve the condition on the campus as the government was determined to curb elements provoking violence.
