The party said that border people often get caught in the cross-border firing and suffer in every respect as they have to abandon their homes to save their lives. This was stated by state BJP president Jugal Kishore Sharma while addressing people at Hiranagar and Samba on his “Refugee Adhikaar Yatra” which eneterd seventh day on Wednesday.

He said that though the government could do little with regard to firing from across the border, but the government it could mitigate the hardships of the border people if it had same degree of concern for these people as it exhibited for militants who wanted to join the mainstream.

The BJP demanded that the border people be paid compensation for the losses that suffer. Sharma said that each border resident should be given a five-marla plot at a safer place for residential purpose and reservation in government jobs.

Party spokesman Jitendra Singh said that people living in this border area are victims of dual hardship. On the one hand they are victims of Pakistan firing, on the other hand they are victims of apathy of the government of India and the state government.
