THE STATE Congress on Sunday accused the Mulayam Singh Yadav government of concealing facts about the gas-based power project of Reliance Energy Limited at Dadri. The Congress said secret pact between the Yadav government and the REL was not at all in the interest of the State.
Talking to newsmen here on Sunday, UPCC spokesman Akhilesh Pratap Singh, who had sought details of agreement between the government and the REL under right to information, said that the State Energy Department had refused to provide the information.
The special secretary (energy) Raj Kamal Gupta in reply to Singh’s request said that it was not possible to make the provisions of the agreement public. Gupta quoting the provisions told Congress leader that he could move appellate authority on the issue.
Gupta said as per the agreement, both ‘the parties shall at all times during the continuance of this agreement and for a period of three years following its termination (i) keep all information regarding the terms and conditions hereof and any data or information acquired under or pursuant to this agreement confidential and accordingly no party shall disclose the same to any other person and (ii) not use any document or other information (whether technical or commercial) obtained by it by virtue of this agreement concerning the other party or its undertaking for any purpose other than the performance of the first party’s obligations and exercise of its rights under this agreement.”
The Congress leader said mystery shrouded the project and the government had been misleading the people on the issue. He said the entire governmental exercise was aimed at hiding one of the biggest Dadri land scandals in the State. Asserting that the people had every right to know about the project details, Singh said prime Dadri land had been given to REL at a throwaway price. He said the government had also not explained about the time frame of the availability of power from the project. Singh said denial of document under the RTI had amply indicated the fishy deal of the government. He said the Chief Minister had only been making tall claims about the project. But the government had now been exposed to the issue, he said.
