MEMBERS OF a standing committee have expressed their displeasure over the apathetic attitude of government officials towards fulfilling promises made by the State Government to elected people’s representatives in the House.
The standing committee reviewed fulfilment of assurances by officials at the Circuit House here.
Talking to Hindustan Times, Prof Ramji Singh and MLC Panchanan Rai said there were 48 cases pending in Gorakhpur and Maharajganj districts. They said in 15 cases, officials had fulfilled the assurances, while most cases were pending.
However, Ramji Singh defended the officials and said some of the cases were pending in court, which had caused delay in compliance with orders. He admitted that the delay in fulfilment of promises by the government brought a bad name to the ruling party and raised questions over the credibility of the promises made by the government in the House.
MLC Ganesh Shanker Pandey, Ram Nagina Yadav, Jai Singh and others also reviewed the fulfillment of assurances. They focused on various complaints related to the land mafia and the education mafia. They reviewed cases of dowry death, maintenance of ‘Shaheed Sthali’ at Chauri Chaura and also went through the complaints regarding financial irregularities in the Social Welfare Department.

Gorakhpur district magistrate Dr Hariom and the Maharajganj district magistrate remained absent from the meeting. Though chief development officer AK Mishra tried to clarify the position and said the district magistrate was on leave, members of the committee said the meeting was scheduled earlier and his absence was condemnable.
