Agriculture minister Chandrasekhar Sahu told PTI on Saturday that the declaration was made on the basis of the report on scanty-rainfall in those tehsils by the revenue department.

Meanwhile, senior officials with the revenue department informed that out of 33 tehsils, 9 tehsils fall under Rajnandgaon district, seven tehsil in Durg, four in Kawardha, two each in Raipur, Bilaspur, Mahasamund, four in Kanker and three in Bijapur district.

Revenue officials further added that the district collectors have been asked to start relief work in all those tehsils that have been declared drought affected and Rs 50 lakhs each has also been sanctioned for this purpose.

It is to be noted here that the first cabinet meeting of the new government on December 23 last year had reviewed the drought situation.

The Chief Minister had informed that officials have been asked to give details about the drought situation by January 05, 2009.
