Govt official arrested for accepting bribe in J&K

State vigilance sleuths on Friday arrested a senior officer of Jammu and Kashmir government for allegedly accepting a bribe of Rs 10,000 from a contractor for releasing dues to the latter.

State vigilance sleuths on Friday arrested a senior officer of Jammu and Kashmir government for allegedly accepting a bribe of Rs 10,000 from a contractor for releasing dues to the latter.

Assistant Commissioner Development, Kupwara, Abdul Rashid Bhat was arrested while he was accepting the bribe from Ghulam Rasool Shah, the complainant, in presence of witnesses, a spokesman of the anti-corruption department said.

Shah had undertaken a electrification work in Kupwara district.

The bribe was recovered from the possession of the accused, the spokesman said, adding the officer has been taken into custody for further investigation.
