“The mobile phones and smartphones are hacked for transfer of money illegally…countering this will be among the top projects of NCCC,” a DeitY source told HT.

The NCCC will work closely with the Economic Offences Wing (EoW) in Central Bureau of Investigation to tap cases of illegal online money transfer. This is done by hacking different accounts using cloned SIMs. It will also work with the legal departments in security agencies to ensure genuine consumers are protected.

“It is important since current legislation and law for e-commerce using mobile or computer devices are not consumer friendly. In case of misuse, the onus to prove not guilty is on the user of the phone or a computer device,” said Pavan Duggal, a Cyberlaw expert.
