"After PDP it is now Congress playing politics in the name of release of detenues," a spokesman of the Hurriyat said in a statement in Srinagar on Saturday.

It said "the government at the first instance announced that it will release 400 detenues. The figure was slashed to 40 for unknown reasons and now the release was being delayed".

The statement claimed the courts have already "quashed" the detention of more than 100 detenues and ordered their release.

Out of these, government had taken a decision to release 40, it said.

Hurriyat has apprehensions that release of the detenues might be postponed, the statement added.
