ENERGY MINISTER Shivpal Singh Yadav on Thursday assured the Power Corporation employees that the State Government would sympathetically consider their demand to increase the retirement age from 58 to 60 years.
The minister, who had a meeting with the office-bearers of the employees union, said that a proposal to this effect would be tabled before the next meeting of the State Cabinet for its approval. Announcing more sops on the occasion, Yadav said that all the posts that existed in the Power Corporation as on April 1, 2000 but were later abolished would be restored. “The Power Corporation presently has over 95 lakh consumers and 45,000 employees. About 35,000 posts that are still vacant in the corporation would be filled depending on their need and requirement,” he said. Office-bearers of the union demanded ouster of vigilance team attached to the corporation for checking power pilferage as its officials were allegedly indulging and giving rise to corrupt practices.
The minister further said that a decision in the matter would be taken soon but at the same time warned that stern action would be taken against those Corporation engineers and employees also who were found indulging in corrupt practices. Applauding the announcements made by the minister, members of the Vidyut Karamchari Sangharsh Samiti including Girish Pandey, Sadruddin Rana, RS Rai, CP Awasthi, SC Dwivedi, Daulat and Parshuram etc said that the vacancies in the corporation should be filled up at the earliest.
