Due to the old curriculum and lack of infrastructure, which fails to cater to the present day’s employment skills, students of some 82 government degree colleges in Haryana have struggled to join the bandwagon of industrial growth.

“Such an award will motivate college deans to bring overall institutional development,” said SS Prasad, state principal secretary, higher education.

The awards will be given on the basis of exemplary administrative abilities, promotion of sports and culture, organising placements, curb ragging etc.

Even as students of private professional colleges, which have mushroomed in the state, have benefited from employment opportunities, their counterparts in government colleges have not been so lucky.

“As the heads of institutions, we (principals) can make a lot of difference,” said Ashok Diwakar, principal at a Sector 15 girls’ college.
