TRADERS WHO gathered at the GPO Park to participate in the ‘Vyapari Sangam’ organised by the Akhil Bhartiya Udyog Vyapar Mandal, to celebrate its foundation day today, vehemently criticised the State and the Central Governments for their ‘anti-trader’ policies.
They said the Mulayam Singh Government should give due attention to the traders’ problems and rid them of the mafia raj failing which, the traders would organise a state-wide bandh on December 31. They also threatened to organise an agitation against various policies of the Central Government.
Hundreds of traders representing various districts participated in the ‘Vyapari Sangam’ which was being ‘advertised’ for the last several days. Incidentally, no the show remained a non-political event with not a single politician invited to attend it. Possibly, the organisers wanted to keep the doors open to all the parties after a show of strength!
Vyapar Mandal convener Sandeep Bansal said both the State and the Central Governments had let the traders down. He alleged the Central Government treated the traders as an ATM machine meant to tax more and more but was not bothered about their welfare. He said the Government was playing into the hands of the multinational companies.
The Mulayam Singh Government too, had created problems for traders in reality by imposing new taxes like Development Tax, Entry Tax and Wealth Tax. He said many facilities available to the traders in the past were also withdrawn by the present government. The Bhamashaha Award begun for the traders by the Rajnath Singh Government had been discontinued, he pointed out.
