The Delhi government wants a share in DDA’s profits that the authority earned through auction of prime land for commercial and residential purposes.
The DDA has so far either auctioned or is in the process of auctioning land worth over Rs 2,000 crores.
The Urban development Department would soon prepare a proposal for approval from the Delhi Cabinet.
As per the proposal, 25 per cent of the money earned by the DDA through auctions should go to the state government as the latter does all the developmental work after the land is auctioned.
The Delhi government is also preparing a fact sheet on DDA according to which 1432 unauthorised colonies sprung in Delhi due to DDA’s inability to develop housing colonies in the city.
Moreover, the Delhi government has found that 686 DDA employees were chargesheeted either by the law enforcement agencies or internal vigilance between 2000 to 2005 proving its point that corruption was rampant.
Finance and UD Minister AK Walia said that we are placing a demand for 25 percent of the money of auction as all the developmental works in residential colonies, group housing societies and commercial areas are done by the MCD, which is largely financed by the Delhi government.
“We would place it before the Cabinet for approval and then the issue would be pursued with the Ministry of Urban Development,” Walia said.

{{/usCountry}}Government sources said that the land bank of DDA showed 95,465 acres of land with the DDA till November 2004.
A majority of this was land acquisition amounting to 69,871 acres. “This land, acquired years ago from farmers, is now being sold at astronomical rates,” said an official. He said, if this was the purpose of DDA now, the government too should get its due for pursuing developmental and infrastructure related activities.
“DDA earns its money from Delhi but hardly pumps any money back to the city. The money is largely spent on incurring massive expenditure on staff without much output,” said Walia on the decision to ask for 25 per cent share.
