Tightening the noose around garbage collectors, the Municipal Corporation of Gurgaon (MCG) is all set to install global positioning system (GPS) in their vehicles.
The device will keep a tab on vehicles engaged in picking and disposing of garbage from areas under the MCG's jurisdiction.
As of now, the corporation has installed GPS on four vehicles and it is likely to be installed on forty more. The service may be extended to all vehicles engaged in collection of garbage in the city. “We have been working on the issue for long and are now executing the plan,” said Dr Aruna Sangwan, incharge, MCG sanitation.
MCG commissioner Sudhir Rajpal called a meeting on Wednesday where he issued instructions to all contractors to deliver their duties honestly.
“This is just the beginning. We have to chalk out several other plans to track garbage collecting vehicles to bring transparency in the system,” said Sangwan.
The corporation has taken a serious note of the issue after complaints poured in regarding poor management. The corporation has been issuing instructions to contractors in this regard.
“The GPS system will enable us to track the vehicles, also whether it has completed its rounds properly and collected garbage from dustbins,” added the sanitation incharge.

{{/usCountry}}“We have to map the route first to build a geo-fencing area, which will be traceable through GPS. All vehicles equipped with the GPS device will ply on the designated routes only. Dustbins will be placed accordingly so as to be tracked on the system,” said an official.
