Superintendent of Police SK Singh, said the bride's father Azad Singh, a resident of Dankore, had arranged the marriage of his daughter Monika with Pankaj, a resident of Sadopur village. Pankaj works in LG factory.

The marriage was fixed for December 5. "When marriage party reached the bridegroom's house, they were astonished to hear that the bride has been abducted. When bride could not be traced the marriage party went back," said Singh.

The villagers told the police that the bride's grandfather Jagat Singh and her uncle had arranged her marriage with someone else. The bride's father Azad Singh did not approve of the bridegroom suggested by them. Jagat arranged the marriage with Pankaj and tried to conduct the marriage at the earliest to avoid a clash with father, according to Singh.

As this is a personal matter, the village panchayat has told the police to allow it to be resolved within the family with the intervention of elders if need be.
