CHIEF MINISTER Mulayam Singh Yadav on Sunday said he would pass a grant in connection with the unemployment allowance in the supplementary budget in the session starting on May 11. The chief minister made this announcement at the All India Kayastha Mahsabha Youth wings’ conclave at Gandhi auditorium on Sunday.
He came down heavily on Prime Minister Manmohan Singh for not giving any financial support to the state government for a noble cause. He said, “Initially we decided to give unemployment allowance to 4.5 lakh unemployed youths in the state. But following an extension of the date of registration to February 18, the number of unemployed exceeded to 9.5 lakhs. Now, the State required some assistance from the Centre. But in spite of a number of letters written in support of the matter, there has been no response from the Centre”.
He said Yash Bharti awards would be started soon and people from all walks of life would be given the coveted award.
Speaking on the occasion, Yadav called upon the Kayastha community to remember the contributions made by great Kayastha luminaries like Vivekananda, Subhash Chandra Bose, Dr Rajendra Prasad, Lal Bahadur Shastri and Jai Prakash Narain. He said the Kayastha community should not lose heart because of reducing percentage of Kayasthas in government jobs. He said he respected the community for its intellect and golden history.
The chief minister said he was aware of the problems faced by the Kayastha community after the increase in reservations but this should not discourage the community. He said his party had always respected the Kayastha community that’s why it had given important posts to Kayasthas like Jaya Bachchan and Gopal Das Neeraj.

{{/usCountry}}Yadav said he had never drawn a line between communities and all his programmes like Kanya Vidya Dhan, free medicine for all, unemployment allowance were meant for the people of all sections of the society.
Presiding over the programme, famous poet Gopal Das Neeraj asked the organisers to hold such programmes in smaller cities too. National president of the Kaystha Mahasabha Kailash Sarang sought an end to reservation, “which was creating a rift in the society”.
