Grave mistake

It is shocking that some youngsters managed to drive into the inner part of the PM’s residence. It was an unpardonable mistake on the part of the SPG, especially at a time when the nation is gripped with fear of terrorist attacks. Had mediapersons present there not raised an alarm and alerted the SPG, the situation would have been worse. Action should be taken against the SPG personnel responsible for this serious lapse to ensure such incidents do not recur.

Do it yourself
Apropos of the report Man who moved a mountain (July 26), Dasrath Manjhi is a hero and a role model for all of us, especially the younger generation. He has proved that with grit, hard work and commitment one can solve any problem, however difficult. Depending on the government to solve our problem is not the solution; ingenuity lies in solving them without government help.

Help the farmer
Apropos of the editorial Need to get agro (July 27), farmers have been living in poverty since Independence and they deserve all help that the government can give. Farmers undertake a high-risk, low-income economic activity and face the vagaries of nature. The government should exclude the creamy layer of the OBCs from any reservation policy and instead include the needy classes in their place.

Hoax calls are a big drain on our resources, and throw everyday life out of gear. Strict action must be taken to discourage pranksters.

Bring guilty to book
Apropos of the report Action against 152 farmhouses in Aravalli hills (July 23), only time will tell if action will actually be taken by the authorities. Illegal activities like clandestine mining and felling of trees are not possible without official connivance. The officials involved must be identified and brought to book.
