A greenpeace activist who was stopped from boarding a flight to London by the government earlier this month has moved the Delhi High Court challenging the alleged lookout circular issued in her name.
“There are no criminal convictions against me and I have not evaded arrest or trial in any case. The purpose of the lookout circular in my name remains unexplained, as I have received no formal communication from the Ministry of Home Affairs on this matter,” Priya Pillai, senior campaigner for Greenpeace India said.
Pillai has claimed she had a valid business visa to travel to the United Kingdom, but Delhi Airport officials stamped 'offload' on her passport.
Pillai said she was scheduled to address British MPs on “blatant humans and forest rights violations” in Mahan area of Madhya Pradesh. Later she addressed the British parliamentarians through video conferencing.
“The offloading is a violation of my fundamental right to personal liberty and freedom of speech and expression,” Pillai said.
She has asked for a direction from the court to set aside the lookout circular against her and expunge the word ‘offload’ on her passport. The HC is likely to take up her petition for hearing on Wednesday.
