The terror links of Burdwan seem to have spread across the country to J&K, Mumbai and Tamil Nadu, CID officers claimed on Wednesday. The calls to J&K have also led the CID sleuths to explore the involvement of terror outfits like the Indian Mujahideen.

CID sleuths stumbled upon the links across the country after tracing phone calls made from two SIM cards seized from Rajira Bibi (alias Rumi), the wife of Shakil Ahmed, who was killed in the explosion.

“It seems Shakil and his associates in Burdwan made and received several calls to and from Tamil Nadu, Mumbai and J&K barely 48 hours before the blast on the morning of October 2,” said DC Dilip Adak, deputy inspector general (operations) CID.

Of the two SIM cards, one was not deactivated, while the other was used in three to four handsets, Adak said, admitting that the police were yet to get hold of the SIM cards.

“We are now certain that Bangladeshi outfit Jamaat-ul-Mujahideen is involved in the crime. Shakil and his wife are members of the outfit. Analysing these phone calls, we are trying to find out whether other outfits like Indian Mujahideen also involved,” an investigating officer said.
