Violence, misbehaviour by Police Training School jawans
MEDICOS AT Ganesh Shankar Vidyarthi Memorial Medical College (GSVM) went on an indefinite strike against the violent behaviour of Police Training School (PTS) jawans in Nauchandi Express on Sunday night. In the incident, several medicos were thrashed badly and five of them were reportedly missing.
According to reports, medicos were returning to Lucknow from Meerut after appearing the UP Post-Graduate Entrance Examination (UPPGEE) organised by Lala Lajpat Rai Medical College, Meerut. Nearly, 50-60 students boarded the train where they had an altercation with PTS jawans in a sleeper coach.
The medicos alleged that in Moradabad, the PTS jawans stopped the train and called some of their counterparts from the station and they all beat up medicos besides misbehaving with girl students.
They said that more than 300 students from across the state had gone to Meerut to sit for the entrance examination. A junior doctor who returned from Meerut said, “Most of the students of GSVM Medical College returned by Sangam Express but those who are from Lucknow boarded Nauchandi and were beaten up badly by the PTS jawans in the train and some of them were even thrown into a river in Rampur.”
Striking medicos put forwards three demands on Monday. Speaking on their behalf, Dr Praveen Katiyar said, “We demand immediate sacking of the guilty PTS jawansl, the Union Railway Minister should make a public statement about the incident and ensure that such incidents must not recur with any passenger in future and the Railways must impose a ban on the entry of ticketless and anti-social elements in reserved compartments.” Medicos also demanded that nexus between Police Tranining School jawans and anti-social elements in providing berths in trains by accepting money must be curbed immediately.
