GSVM medicos stop OPD work at Hallet

IRKED OVER the Union Cabinet approval to implement 27 per cent OBC quota in higher education, medicos of the Ganesh Shanker Vidyarthi Memorial Medical College stopped OPD functioning at the Hallet Hospital, here today. Under the banner of Youth for Equality, the medicos resorted to sloganeering and put up banners and posters from the morning. They also prevented the senior doctors from performing their duty at the OPD. However, they did not disrupt the emergency services at the hospital.

Under the banner of Youth for Equality, the medicos resorted to sloganeering and put up banners and posters from the morning. They also prevented the senior doctors from performing their duty at the OPD. However, they did not disrupt the emergency services at the hospital.

As part of their protest, the GSVM Medical College medicos also installed television and DVD players, showing police atrocities unleashed on anti-quota protestors across the country, outside the OPD.

The medicos sat before the main gate of the OPD. Right from morning, they did not allow the gatekeeper to open the OPD gates. They continued shouting slogans to give voice to their protest. Several patients were forced to return as they could not consult any doctor at the OPD.

Dr R. P. S. Bharadwaj at the Cardiology department said that OPD could not be closed as diagnosis following just external checkup was not possible. About 250 patients were examined at the Cardiology OPD here today.

Later, the GSVM students took out a motorcycle procession in the evening that resulted in traffic snarls at Parade Crossing for over half-an-hour. Thereafter, they took out a candlelight procession from the GSVM Medical College till Motijheel Crossing and back to the College.
