Gujarat chief minister Anandiben Patel will accompany Prime Minister Narendra Modi on his tri-nation tour to China, South Korea and Mongolia which begins on Thursday.

This will be Patel’s maiden foreign visit after having assumed office as chief minister in May 2014. She will scout Chinese investors who are keen to invest particularly in the manufacturing sector in Gujarat.

Patel will be part of a high level delegation consisting of senior bureaucrats and businessmen. “Many Chinese firms had signed MoUs with the Gujarat government during the Vibrant Gujarat Investment Summit last January. The CM and top bureaucrats will follow up on the MoUs and invite other Chinese companies to invest in Gujarat,” said Ajay Bhadu, the secretary to the CM.

A consortium of Chinese firms is in the process of buying over 200 acres of land from the Gujarat government to set up a manufacturing park in Sanand near Ahmedabad.

The CM will be accompanied by additional chief secretary (industries and mines) Arvind Agarwal, industries commissioner Mamta Verma, principal secretary to the CM S Aparna and Ahmedabad municipal commissioner D Thara.
