?Gulab Badi? function organised

IN ITS endeavour to keep the Banarasi tradition alive, a cultural organisation Kala Prakash in association with Indian Council of Cultural Relation (ICCR) organised a traditional Banarsi function ?Gulab Badi? in Ravindrapuri area on Sunday evening.

IN ITS endeavour to keep the Banarasi tradition alive, a cultural organisation Kala Prakash in association with Indian Council of Cultural Relation (ICCR) organised a traditional Banarsi function ‘Gulab Badi’ in Ravindrapuri area on Sunday evening.

Nephew of Bharat Ratna Shehnai maestro Ustad Bismillah Khan, Ustad Mumtaz Hussain, kicked off the function by reciting Shehnai.

He recited ‘raag kedar’ and also played the magical instrument on some traditional songs such as ‘chaiti’ and ‘ghato’.

Altaf Hussain and Roshan Hussain accompanied him on shehnai whereas Nazim Husain accompanied him on tabla. Noted classical singer of Mumbai, Ashwini Deshpande rendered some classical songs such as `Fagwa Brij Dekhan Ko Chal Ri’ and `Akhiyan Daro Ri Gulal’ and stole the heart of one and all. Vinod Lele accompanied her on Tabla whereas Vinay Mishra played harmonium.

Male guests were dressed in white kurtas and paijamas whereas female guests were attired in light pink colour sarees in the function. Male members were felicitated with caps and dupatta whereas females were felicitated with bouquets. Rose petals and rose water were showered on the guests.
