Gunmen broke into the house of a Shiite family northeast of Baghdad on Saturday, killing 13 people, police said.

The attack happened in Buhriz, about 60 kilometers north of Baghdad.

Today's attack came despite an extraordinary daytime curfew in Diyala province and three other flashpoint, aimed at curbing a wave of sectarian vilence that has killed more than 140 people since the bombing of a Shiite shrine in Samarra on Wednesday.
The shrine bombing triggered reprisals by Shiites against Sunni mosques and pushed the country to the brink of civil war.
Buhriz, a Sunni-insurgent stronghold, has seen repeated sectarian strife.
