Ambala, Panchkula and Gurgaon will be the first three districts of Haryana to run the Crime and Criminal Tracking Network and Systems (CCTNS), which will interconnect all police stations in India, on pilot basis.
Later, the project would be rolled out across the state. This was disclosed in the sixth meeting of the state apex committee on Thursday.
The centrally-funded project would create a national databank of criminals and their biometric profiles.
Stating that it was an important project, an official release said CCTNS was a comprehensive and integrated system for effective policing through adoption of e-governance and creation of nationwide networked infrastructure for evolution of state of the art IT tracking system.
This database will have details of the criminal justice systems like courts, jails, immigration, passport authorities, forensic labs, transport department, mobile companies, central agencies, among others.
The state chief secretary said that HP India Sales Pvt Ltd was the system integrator for the implementation, commissioning and maintenance of the project. As many as 28 computer training labs have been commissioned in the state for providing computer awareness training under the project.
Close to 190 officials have been imparted training for further training officials of their units on basic computer awareness. The project will create a platform for sharing intelligence and criminal information across the country.
