The Metro will finally begin operations between Delhi and Gurgaon on Monday and its arrival in town is evoking extreme responses from a metropolis that has clamored far too long for an effective transport system.
“Wow. I feel elated for the first time in my thirteen years of living in Gurgaon,” was the first reaction from Dev Chopra (76) — a former United Nations official and resident of DLF City (Phase-II) — when he came to know the Metro was starting regular service between Delhi and Gurgaon.
“I will no more be dependent on my driver to visit Delhi,” said a visibly jubilant Chopra.
“I will now be able to walk down to the MG Road Metro station in three minutes from my home!”
Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) has announced five trains on the fragmented section at a frequency of 12 minutes to begin with, between HUDA City Centre Metro Station (Gurgaon) and Qutub Minar Metro station in Mehrauli (Delhi).
Of the 14.45-km-long stretch, 7.05 km fall in Gurgaon with five metro stations on its side. Five metro stations on the route fall in Delhi. The Central Secretariat-Qutub Minar stretch is likely to be ready by the July end or August beginning, DMRC officials said.

Meanwhile, among concerns that reaching Metro stations in Gurgaon could prove problematic for commuters, Gurgaon administration has announced a feeder bus service.
