Intensifying its campaign against power theft, the Dakshin Haryana Bijli Vitran Nigam (DHBVN) has detected 1,920 cases in Gurgaon circle in the current financial year.

Of this, 214 cases were detected in August alone in the Gurgaon circle, which includes Mewat.

A penalty of R1.12 crore has also been imposed on the offenders.

Hisar operation circle, with 2,443 cases, ranks first, followed by Gurgaon. Bhiwani stands third at 1,847 cases, followed by Faridabad at 1,768, Sirsa 444, Rewari 305 and operation circle Narnaul 275.

Last week, Devender Singh, chairperson and managing director of Haryana power utilities, had said electricity theft was the main reason of the reduced supply in Gurgaon.

“To check the pilferage, we have launched Theft Informer Scheme, under which a person who gives information about a theft will be rewarded with 20% of the penalty amount,” said a DHBVN official.

The official added that one could dial 01662-221527 or toll-free number 18001801011 to report about theft.
