Already reeling under a fee hike, parents of students studying in private schools in Gurgaon are fearing another hike. The school administrations have clarified that since the Haryana government has refused to provide any compensation for imparting education to the underprivileged students, they can resort to another hike in fees.
The Haryana government has brought in force the Haryana Education Act, under which there is no provision for compensation to the schools providing education to the economically weaker section (EWS) category students.
Col. Kr. Pratap Singh, President, Haryana Progressive School Conference (HPSC) said, "Haryana government has made it mandatory for the private schools to ensure 25% admission to the EWS category students as per section 143(A) of Haryana Education Act that does not provision for any compensation to the schools. In Delhi, schools get R1,090 per month for each EWS student."
"The government should issue a notification and announce its contribution. In the absence of which schools would be compelled to revise the fees," said Satyavir Yadav, Chairman, Euro International Group of schools.
Haryana's education minister Geeta Bhukkal said, "For the education of each EWS child we are planning to give a maximum R1,500 to the schools. But for other facilities we will take a decision as per the RTE Act."
