The district fire department is going to add three fire tenders to its fleet. Besides, it will buy two hydraulic platforms of 42-metre height.
The state government has already given Rs. 6 crore to the department to upgrade its fire-fighting system.
At present, the department has two hydraulic platforms, five water bowzers, nine water tenders, six foam tenders, one jeep, two small water tenders and one rescue tender.
"With a large number of mishaps being reported in the city, the department needs advanced equipment and trained manpower. Slums and godowns are more prone to such incidents," said a senior fire official, requesting not to be named.
Gurgaon only has three fire stations with 109 fire-fighters. The department has 25 fire tenders. The department needs fire stations at Sector 56 and Pataudi.
According to the data released by the fire department, around 23 people died, while 48 were injured in mishaps reported in the city last year. Property worth Rs. 105 crore was also damaged. Last year, the department had received as many as 899 emergency calls.
"The department has to depend on the neighbouring national Capital, private firms and military fire stations for assistance. With the new equipment and vehicles, our response time will improve," said the official.
