Hacker group Anonymous on Saturday claimed to have hacked Twitter in India, "avenging" the Indian government for allegedly blocking its Twitter handle OpIndia_Revenge.

The group claimed to have attacked Reliance Communications filter servers and redirected web users to a site that hosted a warning to the Indian government. The message also appealed to the people as well as the Opposition.

This, after Reliance had reportedly blocked sites, including torrents and video sharing sites such as Vimeo. The company also reportedly claimed that they would continue to filter and block websites without court orders and other ISPs were free to join them.

Some Twitter users were redirected to a message from Anonymous Op India when they tried to access Twitter. "Told you not to mess with free speech and lesser with Anonymous. Government of India, you know what you did wrong. you caused out twitter account to be blocked now we will show you what anonymous is capable of doing (sic)," said the message.

"We will unleash hell and shiver on you," the message warned the Indian government if it didn't "restore" Anonymous Op India's Twitter handle.
