I am terribly disappointed that India has taken this position, when the solution to the problem would be to release the kidnapped soldier to put an end to this dangerous impasse. Would it not be easier to ask Hamas to pressure its own members to release this young soldier and allow things to return to “normal”, if normality is the desired goal?
Why are all the obligations for bringing an end to the problem placed at the doorstep of Israel and not at the terrorist leadership of Hamas, which is and has been for long the guilty party? Consider the terror campaign that this murderous group has waged against innocent Israeli citizens, including children. Does their election to the government of the country absolve them of their crimes and now further endows them the legitimacy of maintaining this campaign of terror by proxy?

India’s situation with Pakistan over Kashmir is not terribly dissimilar to what has been happening in Israel. How would you respond if one of Pakistan’s many terrorist groups were to kidnap 10 young Indian soldiers and take them over the border to PoK, threaten to kill them if India does not open its jails and release all Pakistani terrorists and suspects and 28 nations possess the gall to join in with Pakistan to condemn India for putting pressure to have them released?
How would Indians in border areas view daily rocket attacks from Pakistan, knowing that no attempts are made by the central government to stop the practice and in fact is actually supported by the Pakistani government? Israel vacated the Gaza strip and left it to the Palestinians. It ceased its “occupation” obviously leaving the Palestinians nothing to complain about. So this provocation it designed to bring Israel back across the line, so they could claim it as “occupation” and catapult them and their demented cause back onto the headlines all over again.

Walk in Israel’s moccasins for a little while before making such hasty and unbalanced condemnation. In fact you are in Israel’s situation but you are too blind to see that yours is similar to theirs, and where you see it, you lack the moral stamina to be fair to your own conscience.
