Hamilton claimed his maiden victory in last Sunday's Canadian Grand Prix to go eight points clear at the top of the driver's standings.

But talking ahead of Sunday's US Grand Prix the famously well-grounded British rookie dismissed talk of winning the championship and instead outlined his plans to keep improving his already impressive understanding of life in Formula One.

"I think it's way too early to even start thinking about the championship," Hamilton said.

"I just have to approach every race exactly the same as I always have and to try and do a solid job. Each time I go out in the car, I learn something new.

"I'm becoming more and more comfortable in the car, with the team, with the controls and with the rules and the regulations.

Hamilton expressed surprise at comments from his Spanish McLaren teammate Fernando Alonso, who struggled in Canada, suggesting that the team offer the Englishman the bulk of their support.
