Around 1,572 families are into cocoon production in the district, especially the Bela area of Nadaun.

The department of sericulture has provided about 845 ounce silk worm seeds to the farmers of the district at subsidised rates during the previous year so as to have high quality silk cocoons at their farms.

Deputy commissioner Ashish Singhmar said the sericulture department had set up four nurseries of mulberry plants in the district from where mulberry leafs are given to the farmers for their use. He said that the department was doing its best to help the farmers and he was hopeful that with the latest technology that was being imparted to the silk growing farmers, they would be able to increase their income steadily.
