OFFICERS AND employees in UP Handloom Corporation headquarters are annoyed at the proposed inspection in showrooms all over country.

Most employees are opposing the inspection and are of view that it would put additional financial burden on the Corporation.
In this context, the employees’ leaders are planning to register their protest with the management. General secretary of UP Handloom Corporation Employees Association PC Bhanti alleged that the management was not able to pay the monthly salary of employees on a regular basis. This new commitment would not only put extra burden on the employees but also on the Corporation.
According to the employees, the inspection visits are proposed to detect irregularities in the functioning of the showrooms. But they alleged that this was not going to be useful as the authorities failed to initiate any action against officials who had been indicted in earlier inquiries. They cited the example of an inquiry carried out by a two-member team in December 2005 and said that action could not be taken against the guilty officials. The employees raised queries as to what would happen after the proposed inspection.
It may be mentioned that the Corporation is worried after failing to obtain the second installment of financial assistance worth Rs 5 crore from the Central government under the ongoing revival scheme because it failed to provide sufficient information about its sale progress for which it was provided Rs 10 crore by the State and Centre.

They said that with the proposed inspection, the only thing which was likely to be achieved was collection of information, which could also be collected through the normal official channel.
The employees suggested that unless the corporation authorities initiated strict action against officials who had been indicted in various departmental inquiries in the past, no positive outcome was likely.
They said that such practices may hinder the objective of the ongoing revival under Deen Dayal Hathkargha Protsahan Yojna.
Managing director of the Corporation Shyam Lal said that inspection of various show rooms had been chalked out along with other plans to boost the sale, but he denied any resentment over the proposed inspection visits.
