A Haryana policeman — until recently posted in Haryana Bhawan in Delhi — has been arrested in connection with the kidnapping and subsequent murder of a youth about two months ago.
The accused cop and his accomplice were arrested late on Friday night on the Faridabad-Gurgaon road and were produced before the court on Saturday, which remanded them in five-day police custody.
The police said that on April 6, 2012, one Ankit Deshwal, 25 — a resident of Trikha Colony in Ballabgarh — disappeared under mysterious circumstances. His burnt body was traced in a village in Sector 55 of Faridabad the next day.
Surprisingly, the kidnappers did not make any ransom call to Deshwal’s family immediately after his abduction. They only demanded for the money — R15 lakh — after killing him.
The kidnappers, who have been identified as Tariq — the constable — and Pervaz, both of Dauj village in Faridabad, started making ransom calls to Deshwal’s father on May 23, 2012.
“When kidnappers started making ransom calls, we alerted our cyber wing which traced the two kidnappers to Mangar on the Faridabad-Gurgaon road on June 1,” said Sudhip Singh, SHO Ballabgarh.

{{/usCountry}}“During interrogation, the duo confessed their involvement in the crime,” said Raj Kumar Vaishisht, DCP Ballabgarh, adding, “Yes, one of the accused turned out to be a constable in Haryana Police.”
“The victim was known to the accused. The accused were under a false belief that Deshwal belonged to a rich family. They thought that by executing his crime and demanding for ransom would change their fate,” said a police officer.
