Following in the footsteps of Delhi, the Haryana government on Sunday asked all the schools to extend their summer vacations by one week due to the prevailing heat condition in the state. As per the order, all government, private and government-aided schools would remain closed owing to the scorching heat and delay in the onset of monsoon.
Most of the schools were scheduled to open on July 2. After Delhi’s decision, parents here were confused and were expecting a similar move.
“In view of the scorching heat, the Haryana government has extended the summer vacations in government, aided, recognised and private schools up to July 8. Now all schools in the state would reopen on July 9,” education minister Geeta Bhukkal said.
However, authorities at The Shri Ram International School, Scottish High, Ryan International, Amity, among others, said they were still waiting for instructions from the management.
Gurgaon deputy commissioner PC Meena, who usually issues directives at local level, also denied having received any written communiqué from the higher authorities.
Hence, private schools were confused whether or not to announce the extended holidays. Most of the private schools were waiting for their respective managements to take the call.
“The summer break was announced in May when the weather was not so bad. But now, the mercury is touching 45 degrees. It is certainly difficult for a child to attend school,” said Sujata Kashyap, mother of a Class 1 student in the city.

{{/usCountry}}Rekha Handa, another parent, added, “It’s good that the government extended the holidays. However, the important question is whether private schools would follow the orders.”
She said “most of the private schools do not give importance to such decisions”.
