After the hue and cry over land acquisition in Noida, the Haryana government on Friday decided to put on hold land acquisitions in the state, except in case of essential infrastructure projects, till the land acquisition bill was cleared by Parliament.
The order for putting on hold land acquisitions in the state was issued by chief minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda keeping in view the likely introduction of a new land acquisition bill in the coming session of Parliament, an official release said.
These instructions would, however, not apply to cases of land acquisition for essential infrastructure projects such as roads, sewerage system, canals, water channels, drainage system and power projects, it said.
"Since the provisions of the new land acquisition bill would have implications on land acquisition matters, the chief minister found it desirable to wait for the outcome of the new legislation before proceeding further in these cases," it said.
Recently, the Allahabad high court struck down acquisition of hundreds of hectares of land in villages in Greater Noida - dubbed as Noida Extension by builders - leading to uncertainty over the fate of several residential projects in the region.
Around 50,000 people who had invested in builder flats in Noida Extension - a part of Greater Noida - have been affected by the court order which said land should be returned to the farmers as the Uttar Pradesh government had not paid them adequate compensation.
