Govt told to consider extension to ADA V-C
THE ALLAHABAD High Court has directed the Uttar Pradesh State Road Transport Corporation chairman to submit a report on running CNG buses in Allahabad and develop a ‘City Transport Service’.
The court was hearing a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) petition on a number of civic issues.
It also directed the government to consider the question of grant of extension of term to Allahabad Development Authority vice-chairman Raja Ram Upadhyaya for one year under the relevant government order, if any.
The court passed this order when chief standing counsel CB Yadav pointed out compliance with the court’s order in the matter of removal of encroachments and restoration of parks would be seriously jeopardised, if there were a break in the office of the Allahabad Development Authority vice-chairman Raja Ram Upadhyaya. He said Upadhyaya had made genuine efforts to implement the court order during his short tenure of a couple of months. Therefore, the chief standing counsel requested the court that if services of the ADA vice-chairman were extended for one year, it would help the cause of administration and implementation of the court order. Convenor of a committee SK Garg also endorsed the request and submitted that it would be in the fitness of things that the government may, in the public interest and in its discretion, consider extension of his services, if permissible under rules/Government Orders.

{{/usCountry}}Besides, a Division Bench comprising, Justice AK Yog and Justice VC Mishra, directed the Ganga Pollution Control Unit (Allahabad) general manager and the Jal Sansthan (Allahabad) managing director to be present on July 31, 2006, in connection with the alleged flow of a nullah into the Ganga.
The court passed this order when it was brought to its notice that the nullah was polluting the river.
