The Five-Judge Bench of Allahabad High Court refused to interfere in the election process of Allahabad High Court Bar Association on Monday, saying that the election process had already begun.
Making these observations, the Bench comprising Chief Justice AN Ray, Justice AK Yog, Justice Yatindra Singh, Justice Sushil Harkauli and Justice Tarun Agrawal disposed of the writ petition filed by Chandra Narain Tripathi alias Chandu, a candidate in the HCBA election.
The petitioner had requested the court to issue direction that all members of the High Court Bar Association be permitted to cast their votes in the polls
scheduled to be held on March 2.
The petition said that all the members of the High Court Bar Association had resolved in a general body meeting to hold the election and got the Returning Officers appointed.
However, now they had been deprived of voting rights, which was improper.
Besides, the petitioner had also requested the court to make a direction for extending the date for depositing the membership fees of members of High Court Bar Association, so that they got the opportunity to cast their votes.
