The sessions court had suo motu initiated perjury proceedings against Zaheera and other prime witnesses in the Best Bakery retrial.

The petition also challenged the remarks passed against Zaheera and family by the judge in the Best Bakery verdict.

The High Court had directed Zaheera's lawyer Umesh Deshpande to circulate the petition for hearing on June 5, when the court opens after the summer vacation.

In the lower court also, the judge has deferred their trial for giving false evidence till June 5 to hear their plea on stay of proceedings.

Zaheera, her sister Sahira and brother Nasibullah moved the High Court by filing a revision petition challenging adverse remarks against them in the judgement.

Thipsay, on February 24, had convicted nine persons for the Best Bakery riots and acquitted eight accused. He had also observed that Zaheera had intentionally lied in the retrial.

On the basis of this conclusion, the judge had initiated summary trial against them for giving false evidence after giving them showcause notices.

Zaheera's petition not only demands that these remarks by the judge be removed, but also seeks to quash the judgement as well as conviction of nine persons.
