The Lucknow bench of the Allahabad High Court hearing the Ayodhya title suits on Tuesday adjourned hearing on certain untraceable documents to Wednesday.
The bench comprising Justices S Rafat Alam, Sudhir Agarwal and D V Sharma passed this order related to seven untraceable documents which have to be produced before the court.
Earlier, the court had directed the state government to produce these documents of 1949 in the court but the government had informed the court that despite thorough search five of them could not be traced.
The government also submitted that 23 other related files were also missing.
These seven documents are related to different letters and correspondence between the then deputy commissioner of Faizabad and the state government in 1949.
On behalf of the government, additional advocate general JN Mathur while filing an affidavit submitted that government has lodged an FIR in this connection and also recommended a CBI probe into the matter.
The Sunni Central Board of Wakfs claims that the missing papers are vital for establishing its claim that the Babri Masjid existed at the Ayodhya site and that the idols of Lord Rama were placed at the site on the intervening night of December 22-23, 1949.
