THE STUDENTS leaders of the Harishchandra Degree College on Thursday went on the rampage and damaged the college property. They were protesting against the holding of students’ union election as per Lyngdoh Committee report.

About 50 students entered the office of the principal and damaged the valuables kept in his room. After this, they went to the botany department and damaged the laboratory. Besides, they did not spare the two-wheelers and other vehicles parked on the campus.
When college principal Dr Raghvendra Pratap Singh was holding a meeting of teachers, the students led by present president of students union Raju Yadav started damaging the property. On getting the news, the police rushed to the college and brought the situation under control. The college administration suspended the classes. Sources said while the college wanted to hold the election as per the Lyngdoh Committee report, the students wanted election as per the old system in the absence of any GO on the implementation of the Lyngdoh report.
