"He's always with me"

My faith in God is immense. Going to the temple or maybe just having an inner dialogue with Him is a regular feature with me, says model Ayesha Prem.

My faith in God is immense. Going to the temple or maybe just having an inner dialogue with Him is a regular feature with me. He is always on my mind but yes I tend to remember Him more during adversities. I guess that’s what human nature is like. We remember the supreme creator more when the going gets tough than when we’ have all the peace and happiness.

I also feel that whatever happens, happens for the best. We’re always expecting something bad to happen, but that’s not the point. The point is that He meant it to happen like that and it’s best if we accept that He planned it that way for us. Rebelling will only rob us of our peace of mind.

I don’t really have a favourite place of worship but there’s this place that I love to visit when I’m in Simla – the very famous Kali Bari Temple, a childhood retreat I guess. That’s where I’ve spent the earliest days of my childhood and had my earliest communion with God.

My parents have played a very important role in shaping my beliefs. My mother who’s always chanted the Hanuman Chalisa with unfailing devotion and my grandmother whose morning aarti would signal the dawn of the day, have been important influences on not just my beliefs, but also the way I feel about life. Havans that were a regular occurrence at my place, still form an integral part of my life. Any celebration has to be accompanied by a havan.

Holi brings a cheer to me, as does Diwali. But then all festivals give one an opportunity to rejoice and I love to celebrate all of them. Spirituality has a special place in my life. I do yoga and also taught it for a while. Meditation is an option that I am seriously considering but as of now I’m not into it in a big way.
