Our thoughts fly up and down, around and about the vast stretches of the Cosmos. Chasing them, keeping up with their speed and meaning becomes a useless exercise, for the ‘monkey mind’ has only one function... think, think and rethink, until there is total confusion and chaos.

So much stimulation is constantly being thrown at our minds today, that our attention spans have shortened to a brief split second, and nothing seems to really register in our minds. As every student of a school, or a student of life will affirm, catching up with the curricula prescribed, is an enormous, and seemingly formidable task.
How can you increase your receptivity, and find a stable mind in which to store your thoughts and learning? This is possible only when we learn the simple art of condensing all our experiences through the power of concentration.
Instead of going through life with a disorderly mind and no concentration span, and hence no real learning, we could try the art of meditating over each thought. Here I am not talking about a spiritual meditation, but about a meditation on the real world.
Meditation is the art of focusing our thoughts in one direction, on one focal point, and gathering in any other similar and related thoughts that enter our minds at that time, sifting them from all irrelevant thoughts. Now when we learn to condense these meditatively arising thoughts into a small little bundle, we are actually compressing our experiences, to get a quick shot of the wisdom contained within the experience.

In our short span of life, if we wish to be super achievers, we must learn to harness the monkey mind to the carriage of the Infinite mind, through a focused intent that it be so. Supposing you wish to invest some money, and are looking for the best returns possible. You have consulted your stockbroker, your property agent, your bankers, and financial advisors, and have not been convinced about any course of action. In this confused state of mind, you may use the tools described above.
Turn the searchlight of your mind inwards, instead of outwards towards all advice received. Meditate single-pointedly on the fact that you require the best investment wisdom immediately. The subtle laws that will now operate will put you in touch with the wisdom of the ages. Now ask the Divine to turn your mind and action into the right direction. You will certainly see your course of action as plainly and clearly as if you had known it all along, but it was covered over by your own restless wandering mind.
Now go on and follow your inner voice of wisdom, even if outwardly it does not seem practical! If you start from within, to get your answers, you will find that for each little problem the solution will come naturally and effectively. For you have learnt to tame the ‘monkey mind’ and become its master!
