A THREE-MEMBER team of the health department on Sunday raided a private nursing home in Meerapur locality. A resident of Rasoolpur near Meerapur Rakesh Kumar Gupta had made a complaint against the staff and doctor of the nursing home to the State Human Rights Commission, following his wife’s death due to negligence of the hospital. The commission directed the SSP and the CMO to conduct an inquiry into the complaints of Gupta and submit the report by November 6.
The team led by Dr VK Mishra, recorded the statement of the nursing home owner Dr AK Kalra. They also seized a few records related to Gupta’s case. Dr Mishra said that Rakesh Gupta, a resident of Rasoolpur, made a complaint to the State Human Rights Commission against the Kalra Nursing Home staff, following his wife’s death.
“His wife, Radha, was brought to the Kalra Nursing Home with symptoms of diarrhoea. But as Dr Kalra was not present at the nursing home at that time, the three hospital staff Amresh, Suresh and Chhotu persuaded Gupta to take his wife back home. They assured of providing treatment at his home and also gave two injections to Radha.
They started IV fluid, prescribed some more injections and also regularly visited Gupta’s home to examine her. But on June 5, Radha’s condition deteriorated and her body started swelling. By that time, she was administered over 40 IV fluids,” he informed. Dr Mishra said Gupta had rushed his wife again to the Kalra Nursing Home on June 6.
Dr Kalra said that both her kidneys failed due to wrong injection, IV fluid and other medicines. She was referred to the medical college where she died on June 7. “Her husband made a complaint to the police station, but nothing happened. The CO told him to take Rs 20,000 from the nursing home and settle the matter. But instead, Gupta made a complaint to the State Human Rights Commission,” he added.

{{/usCountry}}Dr Mishra said Dr Kalra was not aware that his staff was treating Radha. He came to know about the issue when police started an inquiry. He sacked all the three employees. “Dr Kalra has also given written statement in this regard,” he added.
