Health minister Lal Singh asked doctors to avoid unnecessary referrals to Kathua and Jammu government hospitals.
Singh said this while reviewing the medicare facilities in the community health centres (CHCs) of Basohli and Billawar on Wednesday.
He asked the doctors and paramedics to remain present in hospitals as per the duty roster and provide best health care facilities to people so that they could avoid visiting Kathua and Jammu city hospitals.
Regarding upgradation of health services in Basohli town, Singh said the government has sanctioned `9.72 crore for construction of the CHC building at Basohli. He informed that the construction of the building is under progress and would be completed within the stipulated time frame.
Singh said the CHC Basohli with facilities of emergency block, OPD block, operation theatre, newborn care unit, X-ray, ECG, ultrasound, immunisation and counselling centre will cater to the needs of about 50,000 people of the Basohli tehsil and its adjoining areas.
He assured that the old hospital building near bus stand will be utilised where provision for first aid and ambulance will be made at the earliest. He also assured ASHA workers that all their pending perks will be cleared at the earliest.
Singh directed doctors and paramedics to follow prescribed dress code and said steps will be taken to discourage the private practice of doctors in private clinics.

He directed the doctors and paramedics to wear identity cards during office hours. He asked the concerned officers to maintain office record properly.
