In a brazen show of cruelty towards an elderly person, staff members of a community health centre (CHC) in Patara allegedly dumped an 80-year-old man in an isolated place in Ghatampur on Sunday.
The victim, Samay Singh, was earlier admitted to the CHC by the police, who found him lying near railway tracks in Raghunathpur village on Saturday evening. Later, on getting information, the cops again got Singh admitted to the CHC.
Senior health officials, including chief medical officer (CMO) RP Yadav and CHC’s medical officer incharge Anuj Dixit, said they have instituted an inquiry into the matter.
SB Yadav, incharge of Patara police post, said Singh was first found lying in semi-unconscious state near railway tracks in Raghunathpur from where police admitted him to CHC, Patara.
“On Sunday morning, people informed Bhitergaon police about an old man lying outside a temple on the outskirts of the Behta Gambhirpur village, 8kilometre from Patara,” said Ghatampur's station house officer Vipin Rai.
After much interrogation, police found out that CHC's ambulance driver Amar Singh and ward boy Santosh secretly sneaked the octogenarian out, only to dump him later, said sources.

Dixit said Singh belonged to Gurgaon, Haryana and wanted to get dropped at his relative's house in Behta Gambhirpur.
He, however, expressed surprise over behaviour of staff members who dropped him midway.
Dr Sandeep Singh, the night incharge, denied having any information about Singh's admission in the first place.
Like Dixit, the CMO too claimed that Singh had pleaded to be dropped at his relative's house adding that he was in an inebriated condition.
“Stern action would be initiated against the staff members involved in the callous act ,” he added.
